OIL giant Shell has presented Eastham and District Sunday Junior Football League club Young Lions with a new football kit.
It will be used by the club's newly-formed Under-10 team, which already has 20 boys signed up and will be fielding two sides - Young Lions 1 and Young Lions 2 - in the Eastham and District Junior League's Mini Under-10 competition.
Young Lions, a long established Wirral club, caters for boys from under the age of eight to open age and have reared players through to professional rank.
Among those who played for Young Lions are former Leeds United and Everton player Gary Speed, now with Bolton Wanderers, ex-Liverpool and Sunderland and current Tranmere Rovers skipper Jason McAteer, John Kenworthy and David Prutten, currently playing for Southampton.
The club is managed by George Ringrose, who is assisted by Steve Greenall, a lubricant test engineer for Shell Global Solutions at Cheshire Innovation Park, Chester. Young Lions successfully applied for a grant from the Shell Employee Action scheme.
A Shell spokesman said: "While Shell is involved in many large-scale projects to help society, it also recognises that some of the best work for the community is carried out on a very personal level by people who give up their own time to lend a helping hand. It is this group that Shell Employee Action seeks to support."
Meanwhile, Young Lions are keen to sign new players for their Under-8 and Under-9 teams in the Eastham Mini Soccer League. Training and coaching takes place on the Astro turf pitch at The Oval, Old Chester Road, Bebington, on Sunday mornings (10am).
Those who would like to join should contact George Ringrose on 608-6163 for details.
Young Lions also need a goalkeeper for the Under-10 squad. Training for the under-10s is on a Wednesday (6.30pm) at the The Oval.
