OWEN Brown's Vauxhall Motors eased themselves into the First Round of the F.A. Cup for the second time in three seasons, with a well deserved 2-1 success away at Conference club Northwich Victoria at the weekend - and now they face a trip to Bury in Round One a week on Saturday.
The Motormen looked comfortable from early on and took the lead against Vics after just 13 minutes, when Peter Cumiskey pounced upon Andy Ralph's mistake, as he spilt a harmless looking corner inside his own six yard area.
And in first-half injury time, a superb through ball by James Olsen, put Darren Wright in on goal and he duly picked his spot from the edge of the box to give the visitors a 2-0 interval lead.
Northwich did raise their game after the interval, but could so easily have fallen further behind, when Wright was put through again, only this time his shot went just wide of the target.
The home side then gave themselves a lifeline on 69 minutes, when Mark Quayle headed home at the far post. And whilst they looked dangerous for a short period afterwards for the first time in the tie, the Motormen weathered the storm, to book their place in the First Round draw.
That took Motors unbeaten run to eight games. which has included six victories. This Saturday, they embark on the F. A. Trophy trail, with a home tie at Rivacre Park against fellow Conference North side, Ashton United, before travelling over to Stalybridge next Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the Unibond Cheshire Senior Cup.
Final score:
Northwich Victoria 1
Vauxhall Motors 2
