Vauxhall Motors . . . . 2 Ashton United . . . . 1
VAUXHALL Motors warmed up for their FA Cup first round tilt at Coca Cola League Two club Bury this weekend by coming from behind to defeat Ashton United in the FA Trophy at Rivacre Park, on Saturday.
The Motormen had dominated the first-half, yet found themselves trailing at the break to a 33rd minute breakaway goal from Garvey.
In the second-half, United went close to increasing their advantage, twice through Hardy, either side of a tremendous point blank save by Dittmer to deny Allison.
But then the home side regained the initiative and drew level on 68 minutes. O'Donnell, denied at the first, regained possession to strike home an acute angled equaliser.
Seven minutes later, Motors went in front. O'Donnell did the spade work, chasing a long ball down the right, before pulling it back for Lawton, in full flow - and his fiercely struck drive cannoned into the net off the inside of the far post.
Now all attention is focused on Saturday's big FA Cup tie at Gigg Lane. Vauxhall manager Owen Brown needs to check on the fitness of striker Darren Wright, defender Carl Spellman and goalkeeper Tim Dittmer ahead of the trip, but hopefully all three will be fit to start, as Vauxhall look to grab the First Round headlines for the second time in their history, following their outstanding achievements of two years ago against QPR.
