THE organiser of a candlelit supper in aid of a Wirral charity supporting people living with cancer has praised the public for helping make the night 'as lovely as it was'.
More than 60 people attended the event at Prenton Golf Club, entertained by a selection of Fleetwood Mac hits from Prenton vocalist Calli Hughes with her guitarist husband Mark.
The night, which culminated with everyone on the dance floor, raised £937.50 for Maggie's Wirral. Based at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Bebington, the charity was set up in June 2014, it offers free emotional and psychological support for cancer patients and their families, so they can get all the answers to their questions.
The candlelight fundraising event was organised by Kate verdin-Walsh, house manager of Prenton Golf Club and co-owner of Boss Birds Parlour.
Kate runs the business along with sister Lisa and the siblings wanted to to raise money for Maggie's to thank staff for the support given to mum Pat Ross Davies who has used the centre over the past six years whilst she has been living with cancer.
Kate and mum Pat handed over the proceeds raised from the candlelight night during a visit to Maggie's. A statement from Boss Birds on social media read: "A massive thank you to everyone who supported our 'candle lit supper with the sounds of Fleetwood Mac charity night.
"There are so many people involved who helped make this night as lovely as it was.
"Firstly, thank you to Sasha from the Maggie's fundraising team for coming and telling us about the incredible work and support that Maggie's offers so many families across the region.
"Thank you to Mark and Calli Hughes for blowing everyone away with their musical talents and providing the sounds of Fleetwood Mac.
"Thank you to Selene Co for providing the candle light for the evening and providing two incredible raffle prizes. Thank you to RKQ Engineering for providing four fabulous raffle prizes and sponsoring all the favours on the tables for our guests.
"There are lots of people who provided incredible raffle prizes including family, friends, neighbours, Tram Productions and Flawless Aesthetics and Beauty Wirral.
"Finally, thank you all millions to everyone who attended the evening, share our poster and recommended the evening to their friends. Without all your support, we would not be able to put on these events and continue to support the amazing charities that we have on our doorstep.
"Thank you once again to everyone who helped make the night a huge success. You are all boss."
Maggie’s supporters described the entertainment during the candlelit supper at Prenton Golf Club as 'unbelievably good with excellent vocals and guitar playing'. The Songs performed included Dreams, Songbird, Everywhere, Sara and Gypsy.
Calli Hughes, who performed free of charge along with husband Mark to help raise funds for Maggie's said: "We really appreciated the opportunity to bring our Songbirds show to Prenton Golf club and this was an especially enjoyable evening for us as it helped to raise funds for Maggie’s which is such an important charity.
"We have had some close friends who have been recently diagnosed with cancer."
Calli, a former head of drama at Woodchurch High School and Mark, a retired avionics engineer, have recently performed numerous shows supporting local charities.
They also played for a street party in Prenton, in June 2022, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and again in May 2023 for the Coronation of King Charles.
Attendee Sarah Quayle, from Neston, added: "This was a brilliant Fleetwood Mac tribute night - all in support for raising funds for Maggie’s, in Wirral - supporting people across Merseyside and Cheshire.
"Sasha from Maggie's gave some fantastic insight into their important work and everyone involved put on a top-notch event. It was certainly a night to remember".
