Light up a life

TEN thousand lights will be switched on in memory of loved ones at Wirral Hospice St John's this weekend.

Hanging from trees and buildings at the hospice, they will be switched on during the Light Up A Life ceremony on Sunday (December 8), which starts at 5.30pm.

They will be turned on by the family of Kate McMahon, who was cared for at the hospice and passed away in 2023.

People support Light up a Life by sponsoring a light in memory of family, friends and colleagues who are no longer with us. All donations help to fund the hospice's specialist medical, nursing and family care services.

Rock'n'roll

MIKE Byrne and the Sunrockers return to Heswall British Legion this Wednesday (December 4) promising 'another great night of rock and roll', singing and playing the music of Elvis, Buddy, Jerry Lee and others. Doors open 7.30pm. Admission £5 on door.

Recorder orchestra

WIRRAL Recorder Orchestra Christmas Concert will take place at Trinity with Palm Grove in Oxton on Saturday (December 7) at 4pm. 

Tickets (on the door  from Orchestra members) are £6 including refreshments. 

Book sale

A book sale will be held at Wallasey Village Library and Community Centre this Saturday (December 7) from 10-1pm. Donations of  books to be included in sale can be dropped off on Friday, December 6.

Christmas fair

A Christmas craft and music fair will take place at West Kirby Arts Centre, 29 Brookfield Gardens, West Kirby on Sunday, December 8 from 11am until 4pm.

It will feature items from local crafts people including Christmas decorations, artisan candles, recycled wood product,  handmade jewellery, stained glass art works, pre-loved musical instruments and custom made guitars. Entry is £1 and free for accompanied children.

Festive sparkle

WEST Kirby Musical Theatre Company's Christmas show Sparkle will be staged at The Lighthouse Church in Heswall on Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14.

It will feature 'a mix of much-loved Christmas classics and songs from musical theatre'

A Christmas carol concert is taking place for charity at the United Reformed Church on Telegraph Road in Heswall this Saturday (December 7), it features the Castle Singers supported by Rock Ferry Salvation Army Band and starts at 7.30pm. RSPB Wirral talk

NEW Zealand is the subject of an illustrated talk by Girish & Barbara Patel to RSPB Wirral on Thursday (December 5).

Bedazzled

A SELECTION of 'glamorous' evening wear dating from the 1920s to the present day is now on show at a Wirral art gallery.

Showcasing 20 outfits, Bedazzled - on display at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight until January 26 celebrates 'the enduring popularity of beaded garments and explores the skills involved in making them'.
