A candlelit supper has raised funds for a Wirral charity supporting people living with cancer.

More than 60 people attended the event at Prenton Golf Club, entertained by a selection of Fleetwood Mac hits from Prenton vocalist Calli Hughes with her guitarist husband Mark.

The night, which culminated with everyone on the dance floor, raised £937 for Maggie's Wirral.

Based at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Bebington, the charity was set up in June 2014,  it offers free emotional and psychological support for cancer patients and their families, so they can get all the answers to their questions.

The Songs performed included Dreams, Songbird, EverywhereSara and Gypsy.

Calli Hughes said: "We really appreciated the opportunity to bring our Songbirds show to Prenton Golf club and this was an especially enjoyable evening for us as it helped to raise funds for Maggie’s which is such an important charity.

"We have had some close friends who have been recently diagnosed with cancer."

Calli, a former head of drama at Woodchurch High School and Mark, a retired avionics engineer, have recently performed numerous shows supporting local charities.

They also played for a street party in Prenton, in June 2022, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and again in May 2023 for the Coronation of King Charles.

Attendee Sarah Quayle, from Neston, added: "This was a brilliant Fleetwood Mac tribute night - all in support for raising funds for Maggie’s, in Wirral - supporting people across Merseyside and Cheshire.

"Sasha from Maggie's gave some fantastic insight into their important work and everyone involved put on a top-notch event. It was certainly a night to remember".
