A CHILD golf prodigy with juvenile arthritis who received life-changing care at Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) has opened the Trust’s fundraising Charity Golf Day.

Seven-year-old Bobby Harry, from Bebbington, who made a miraculous recovery with help from staff at Arrowe Park Hospital, played off the first tee at the Trust’s WUTH Charity Golf Day at the picturesque Lancaster Golf Club.

His journey from hospital bed to the golf green has now seen him qualify for the Junior Golf World Championships, set to take place in Ireland next year.

Bobby’s talent and determination have continued to shine on the golf course. Recently, he made headlines with an incredible hole-in-one at the European Junior Golf Competition, a feat achieved by very few golfers, especially someone of his age.

Using a precise 3-wood shot on a 135-yard hole, Bobby’s ball landed with perfect accuracy, sparking astonishment among onlookers.

After experiencing severe pain in 2022, Bobby lost his ability to walk and was cared for by the dedicated team on the Children’s Ward at Arrowe Park Hospital.

Through a tailored programme of treatment and physiotherapy, he regained his mobility and returned to the sport he loves.

Reflecting on Bobby’s recovery, his father, Chris Harry, expressed gratitude to our team, and said: “Seeing Bobby back out on the golf course, especially after everything he’s been through, is something I’ll never forget. He’s shown so much courage and determination.

"We’re incredibly proud of him and so thankful to the hospital staff who made his recovery possible. Qualifying for the World Championships is just the icing on the cake.”

This year’s Charity Golf Day was generously sponsored by Ricketts Financial Planning. Held at Lancaster Golf Club’s historic James Braid-designed course, the event offered a memorable day for participants and raised essential funds for WUTH Charity.

Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive at Wirral University Teaching hospital, added: “The Team at WUTH are delighted with Bobby’s progress and to have been able to support Bobby’s recovery by providing the treatment and physiotherapy needed.

"Bobby is a remarkable young man who has shown great determination and commitment, attributes that I am sure will play a key part of Bobby’s future. Everyone at WUTH wish Bobby the best of luck at the World Championships.

All funds raised from the Charity Golf Day will benefit WUTH Charity, enabling us to make a real difference to the patient experience across our Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge sites. Raffle prizes were also kindly donated by Liverpool Private Signings on the day.
