SNOW and ice is on the way bringing the first chills of winter for the region.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning across the North West as snow is predicted on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Forecasters say the chilly weather is likely from 7pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday.
Temperatures are set to drop to an average of 2°C and 3°C on Tuesday, with 'snow showers' expected.
Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaiyser, in an online forecast, said it may be “quite a chilly start to the day” for many on Sunday and plenty of showers are set to hit.
By Monday, there is a risk of some sleety and snow that could be disruptive, say forecasters.
Ms Glaiyser said there could be “quite a hard frost likely on Monday morning, and this could lead to some icy stretches”.
She urged travellers to “take care during Monday morning’s rush hour”.
The Met Office says snowfall has the potential to cause disruption with travel delays and cancellations to buses, trains and planes.
Drivers are warned to expect disruption and longer journey times.
Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable, while there is a chance of injuries from slips and falls on ice surfaces.
Meteorologists added that there is a small chance that power cuts will occur, and other services such as mobile phone coverage may be affected.
