A Wirral mum took part in a store basket dash and donated the proceeds to a charity helping the borough's homeless and needy.

Lucy Churchill, from Upton, was chosen as one of the winners for Snappy Shopper’s Store Dash at One Stop Upton, on Arrowe Park Road, on Wednesday (November 6).

Lucy, mum of a four-year-old, collected £81.68 worth of goods in the space of 60 seconds, with the costs covered by Snappy Shopper-a delivery app that connects customers to local convenience stores.

Lucy generously donated her basket to Charles Thompson's Mission Toy Appeal, which helps provide gifts to children in need, helping spread joy and make the holiday season brighter for local families.

Lucy said: "I want to help, I know what it’s like to raise a child on your own with not much money, so I wanted to help where I can".

The Snappy Shopper Store Dash is a supermarket-sweep-style competition, allowing winners to fill a basket with as many products as possible in 60 seconds.

Alcohol, tobacco, and scratchcards are not included.

Lucy continued: “Snappy Shopper is handy when I’m just too tired to get out and do my shop, I just order it online and it gets delivered straight to my door.”

The Charles Thompson Mission, on Hemingford Street in Birkenhead, was opened in 1892 by Charles Thompson.

The mission provides food, furniture, clothes, healthcare, counselling services and even toys for the borough's poorest children.

Its founder died in 1903, but his goals lived on through daughter Annie who took over and was the charity's Lady Superintendent for 60 years.

She was awarded the MBE in 1953 for services to the people of Birkenhead.
