Is it a useful tool or is it affecting schools? AI is becoming increasingly popular by schoolchildren in recent years.

I asked 50 students at Weatherhead High School if they had ever used AI for school work and homework, 80% said that they had at some point used Chat GPT or another form of AI to complete homework or school work.

I took the query to a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) who is in charge of overseeing homework and a part of the English department; similarly, Mr. Pierce showed a positive attitude towards the use of AI when he stated, “It makes lesson planning much quicker and easier” and “It is important to learn how to use it as it is becoming an everyday part of life.”.

Mr Pierce did believe that it can limit understanding and take away the challenge of homework, however he overall thinks the use of AI can be useful and effective if used correctly and wisely.

On the other hand, Miss Smith (history/long term teacher at Weatherhead) expresses her worries for AI because of the development of being able to imitate celebrities and parliament to make it look like they have said something when they haven't.

Miss Smith said “AI is going to end up causing lots of conflict and bad propaganda and I am worried for the future generations that will grow up in this world.”.

Overall, there are mixed opinions on this topic as it can be good and bad depending on how you utilise it and what you use it for.
