A WIRRAL animal rescue centre is sending an urgent message to people after three puppies were found dumped in a box on the side of a road.

Celandine Wood Animal Rescue took on three “tiny” days old puppies after they were found dumped in a box by a member of the public.

The Heswall animal rescue said the three puppies still had their eyes closed and were “close to death” from being left out in the cold.

Although staff are currently unable to determine the breed they believe the puppies will turn out to be medium to large once healed.

A spokesperson from the rescue told the Globe: “Earlier in the week, these three tiny puppies at just days old were found dumped in a cardboard box at the side of the road.

“Luckily, someone found them and took them straight to a vets who contacted us to step in and help.

“Eyes closed and just tiny, they were close to death being out in the cold so they really are so lucky.

“They will likely be medium-large breed but we have no idea what they could be yet. Three is a relatively small litter so we hope there aren’t others who weren’t so lucky.

“Mum must be fretting without them after carrying them for so long.

“Our volunteers are feeding day and night every three hours and they are gaining weight nicely. We can’t wait to see their development and are already keeping us on our toes.”

Following the incident, the rescue is urging people to neuter their pets and asking for support and donations.

The statement added: “Please neuter your pets. This is the reality of unwanted litters - dumped and left for dead. If you find yourself in this position please look and ask for help.

“We desperately need items from our dog Wishlist - we can go through multiple 15kg bags of dog food every day.

“We’ll keep you all updated on their progress as we go. Please do not enquire about rehoming these puppies as we already struggle to get through our messages.”
