SIGNALLING problems are causing 'major' disruption for West Kirby and New Brighton rail services this afternoon (Wednesday, October 30).
Merseyrail said on its website that "Due to signalling problems between Birkenhead North and Bidston the West Kirby and New Brighton line is disrupted.
"Train services to West Kirby have been terminated at and started back from Bidston. Anyone needing step free access should use Leasowe Station.
"Replacement road transport services are conveying passengers between Birkenhead North and Leasowe via Bidston, in both directions, until further notice.
"Arrangements have been made for Merseyrail rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys."
The statement continued: "Train services to New Brighton have been suspended.
"Replacement road transport services are conveying passengers between Birkenhead North and New Brighton in both directions until further notice."
Disruption on both lines is expected until 6pm.
