A MAN has died after a serious collision involving a lorry and a cyclist in Seacombe this morning (Tuesday, October 29).

Emergency services including Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were called at around 7.35am to reports of a collision involving a HGV truck and a cyclist at Tower Road and Birkenhead Road roundabout.

The driver of the HGV stopped at the scene.

The cyclist, a 25-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving.

He is still in police custody to be questioned.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Road closures were in place around Tower Road, Birkenhead Road, Dock Road and Duke Street and have now reopened.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.
   
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, Lead Investigating Officer for the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following a road collision today.

“The family are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers, and we have launched an investigation into his death.

“I urge anyone who witnessed or has information on this incident to please contact us.

“Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity, I ask that you please check your dashcam footage for anything that have captured something which will assist in the investigation the incident.

“Every piece information or footage could be vital in establishing what happened and provide his family with answers."
