PUPILS from one Wirral school have been banned from entering Asda.

Students seen wearing uniforms from Woodchurch High School on Carr Bridge Road in Birkenhead without an adult are being refused entry into Asda Arrowe Park Superstore on Woodchurch Road.

In an email sent to parents, Woodchurch High School stated that the school did not ask Asda to ban students after it was unclear whether the supermarket or the school implemented the ban.

Martyn Canham, Woodchurch High School headteacher, said: “We would like to reassure our pupils, parents, and carers that any suggestion that our school communication with Asda to prohibit pupils in our uniform from entering their premises is untrue.

“Such a claim is entirely false and misleading. Our school has always maintained a positive relationship with local businesses, including Asda, and we encourage our students to be responsible and respectful members of the community. We have always encouraged your direct communication with us. Two values we promote in our community are trust and integrity.

“Our school is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and we expect our students to be responsible citizens both in school and in the local community, adhering to our behaviour curriculum.”

A spokesperson Asda said: “The safety of customers and colleagues is our top priority, and we do not tolerate anti-social behaviour of any kind.

"Having made Woodchurch High School aware of our concerns in the past, we’ve now made the temporary decision to not allow students into our Arrowe Park store unless accompanied by an adult.

“This decision will be kept under review whilst we continue to engage with local authorities and Woodchurch High School.”
