A WIRRAL charity for people with autism is holding what promises to be a Remembrance Day service next month.

Autism Together's event is set to take place outside the former St Matthew's Church building on York Street in Bromborough Pool Village on Monday, November 11 at 10.45am.

The charity was gifted the Grade-II listed building last year. It was closed for worship in 2007 and is now used to provide music sessions for autistic adults accessing the charity’s services.

The service on November 11, which is free for the public to attend, will be conducted by Reverend Jenny Gillies from St Barnabas Church.

At 11am there will be a two-minute silence, followed by a rendition of The Last Post. This will be performed on electric guitar by two Autism Together staff members, Alex Harris and Christopher Mitchell, who support autistic people to play music in the former church.

As part of the service, the vicar will also say a dedication over the village’s war memorial, which the charity recently had refurbished.

Richard Whitby, chief executive of Autism Together, said: "As part of our public consultation around what people would like us to bring to the village, the public made it clear they wanted action taken to repair the war memorial, and for more community events.

"We hope to see many of you there."

The Remembrance Service is the first in a series of upcoming events for the charity, including the return of its popular autism-friendly grotto experience and a carol concert.

Details on these events will be released on Autism Together’s website and Facebook page in the coming weeks.
