FIREFIGHTERS put out a skip fire in Birkenhead earlier today (Thursday, October 24).
Two crews were called to the incident on Trinity Street at 9.33am.
The skip was well alight by time crews arrived at 9.38am. Two 'high pressure' hose reels were used to put the fire out. Crews left the scene at 10.16am.
The fire happened close to Priory Parish Primary School as pupils were arriving in the morning.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue told the Globe: "Due to slight smoke ingress, children from the school opposite were escorted by teachers to the main hall and were not affected.
"All staff and children have been checked by crews and all are fit and well.
"They were advised that in the event of any symptoms presenting later, to contact 999 or self-present at the nearest walk in centre."
