MORE than fifty years a star - and Leo Sayer is shining as bright as ever.

The singer-songwriter is on his Still Just A Boy and Still Feel Like Dancing UK tour.

Take your pick - he's at the top of his game.

The tour title reflects his legendary status.

With Leo and his faultless four-piece band you certainly get the message that he has lost none of his boyish enthusiasm for his craft.

He continues to love performing and releasing top quality material such as his new album called simply 1992.

Leo certainly has one of the most impressive back catalogued to dip into.

He is a chart legend just like those other touring stalwarts - David Essex and Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Leo's audience has grown up with him.

He has played his part in the ongoing soundtrack to all our lives.

Every time I have seen him he plays a slick nostalgia-meets-modern day set.

Cleverly balanced from start to finale including hit singles and album tracks that mean something to people.

He can rock and roll and then soothe with the ballads.

And in Liverpool he played to his loyal fans as if it was his first time.

He recalled how he once supported Slade in the 1970s when the crowd threw things at him until Noddy Holder told them to listen to this upcoming star.

Leo reiterated his love of The Beatles with an impromptu version of I Saw Her Standing There.

His sense of humour remains throughout with smashing anecdotes.

And there's no back-projections or special effects on this musical journey through his career.

He opened with Bedsitterland followed by Giving It All Away and the Andrew Gold composition Endless Flight.

There was a bluesy Raining in My Heart with Leo showing his harmonica skills.

Orchard Road and More Than I Can Say were beautifully relayed and just when you thought he had run out of hits there came Long Tall Glasses, Thunder in My Heart and Moonlighting.

He closed his two hour plus concert with The Show Must Go On and a wonderful reimagining of the classic I Can't Stop Loving You.

A true star of the past five decades.

Come back soon, old friend.

VERDICT: Five stars - Leo roars again
