WIRRAL Coastguard Rescue Team and RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat were called to Hilbre Island after reports that a group of people and a dog had been cut off by the tide yesterday (Friday, October 18).
On arrival coastguard officers spotted two people, with a dog, who were fully cut off by the tide.
They were between Little and Middle Eye and were stood on rocks which the tide had reached by the time the lifeboat arrived.
Eight other people had made it safely onto Middle Eye.
West Kirby RNLI Lifeboat quickly launched and brought the first two people and dog back to awaiting coastguard officers at Dee Lane West Kirby for a medical assessment.
The lifeboat then relaunched and carried out two trips to Middle Eye for the remaining casualties.
A spokesperson for Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Today’s high tide cut off all three islands and completely covered the walkway around the marine lake.
"We would urge members of the public who are going for a walk to the islands or going to the coast to check on the tide times before they set off.
"If you see anyone in distress or need assistance remember to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
