A MAN has been charged with intentional strangulation, assault by beating, attempted kidnap, and common assault after numerous incidents in Liverpool city centre.

Shaun Hobson, 24, of Ashford, Kent, was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, October 15 and taken into custody for questioning.

He has now been charged with the alleged offences.

The charges relate to two incidents reported in Grayson Street, Liverpool city centre on Sunday, October 6.

Hobson has been remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today (Thursday, October 17).

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ball said: “We understand the concern that such incidents cause and the victims continue to be supported as this investigation progresses. A man has now been charged and as such this is a live investigation, so I would remind people not to comment or speculate further at this time.

“We are absolutely committed to doing all we can to make Merseyside a safe place to live, work and visit for women and girls, and that includes working closely with businesses who operate in the night-time economy, and taking swift action when information is received about such incidents.

“If you ever have any concerns about your safety or the safety of others on a night out, please speak to officers who patrol these areas, and of course call 999 if you are in any danger.”
