ARROWE Park Hospital’s second floor was described as 'buzzing with excitement' as staff introduced a refreshing new initiative: mocktail sessions.

As part of the hospital's Get Dressed, Get Moving campaign, occupational therapists, dieticians and physiotherapists encouraged patients to visit the drinks station.

Here, there was a choice of non-alcoholic cocktails like zesty Apple Blast, pink lemonade, and tangy Lemon Drop. For patients unable to walk, the drinks were brought to their bedside.

Clinical lead occupational therapist Helen Kennedy said: "It’s about making therapy fun.

"These sessions give our patients a chance to get out of bed, laugh, and engage with one another, which is such an important part of their recovery journey."

The mocktail sessions are just one of many engaging events on Arrowe Park’s second floor, aimed at increasing physical activity, hydration, and social interaction.

The Get Dressed, Get Moving campaign aims to encourage patients to get out of bed, get dressed, and stay active as part of their recovery.

Other popular events include chair-based discos and activity boards to promote cognitive and functional activities.

Helen Kennedy continued: “Deconditioning can lead to a loss of function, independence, and confidence, with every 10 days of bed rest equating to 10 years of muscle aging in people over 80".
