Five people, including two children, have died following a crash on the M6 motorway, Cumbria Police said.

Police were called to the northbound stretch of the motorway past Tebay Services at 4.04pm on Tuesday.

The driver of a Skoda, a man from Cambridgeshire, was pronounced dead at the scene, the force said.

A man, the driver of a Toyota, a woman and two children, from Glasgow, also died at the scene.

A third child was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Cumbria Police said in a statement: “The families of those involved are being supported by specially trained officers.”

The road reopened early on Wednesday, October 16.
