AN update has been issued on the Floral Pavilion after its roof came loose over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the theatre in New Brighton on Saturday (October 12) after reports of issues with its roof.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police arrived at Marine Promenade shortly after 7pm and police cordoned off the entrance of the theatre.
Theatre goers were advised to use the rear exit of the theatre and fire crew worked to secure the roof.
The incident was handed over to the building manager with the advice to leave safely from the rear of the building still in place.
Merseyside Police closed the road and remained to ensure members of the public were able to safely reach their vehicles on leaving. Crews left the scene at 8.53pm.
Today, (Monday, October 14), Wirral Council confirmed that the “show is very much going on” at the theatre.
A council spokesperson told the Globe: “The show is very much going on at the Floral Pavilion Theatre despite damage to the flashing at the front of the building caused by the high winds at the weekend.
“Tonight’s performance of Justin Hayward’s ‘Blue World Tour’ is going ahead, as are all scheduled shows, events and activities while repairs are taking place. Only the café remains closed until repairs are completed.
“For anyone travelling by car, please use the public car parking on Fort Perch Rock and stewards will be on hand to guide you to the temporary entrance at the rear of the building.
“Everyone at the Floral would like to express their gratitude to those who were at the show on Saturday for their understanding. In particular, we would like to thank the emergency services and contractors for their help in assessing and securing the building in a way that has kept disruption to services to a minimum.”
