A SHOCKING video has captured the moment flames ripped through a warehouse in Birkenhead.

Footage capturing the moment a fire ripped through a warehouse on Lorn Street in Birkenhead has emerged.

In the early hours of this morning (Friday, October 11) flames and billows of smoke were seen rising from the building.

Fire crews were alerted at 2.38am and on the scene at 2.44am with eight fire engines and an aerial appliance.

Crews arrived to find a warehouse “10 x 30 metres in size well alight with fire coming through the roof”.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said crews began fighting the fire with “high pressure hose reels and the incident divided into sectors for firefighting”.

They also advised nearby residents and businesses to keep doors and windows shut and told those with existing health conditions to keep medicines nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111.

In an update issued at around 9.50am a spokesperson for the fire service said: “Sector activity at approximately 4.30am included two teams of two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using main jets in the ground floor of the warehouse, one team of two firefighters using a high pressure hose reel in the ground floor office, and one main jet used to fight the fire externally.

“By 5am, firefighters were hotspotting in the warehouse and checking for firespread in the office area while external firefighting was still underway.

“The main body of the fire was extinguished by 5.23am with the incident scaled down with the release of two fire engines and the aerial appliance. Hotspotting continued while crews also monitored the condition of adjacent buildings. By 6.30am, the incident was scaled down to four fire engines.

“Crews are currently damping down the scene.”
