THE trial of four people accused of assisting an offender following the murder of Elle Edwards will resume today (Tuesday, October 8) at Liverpool Crown Court.

The 26-year-old beautician died after being shot by Connor Chapman outside the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey on Christmas Eve in 2022.

Danielle Dowdall, 34, David Chambers, 42, Roxanne Matthews, 33, and Paul Owen, 54, are all charged with assisting an offender.

A jury has now been sworn in for the Liverpool Crown Court trial following three days of legal deliberations.

Chambers - of no fixed address - is accused of arranging the hire of a Volkswagen T-Cross to be used by Chapman.

Dowdall, of Woodchurch, is said to have disposed of the gunman's clothing.

Owen, of Woodchurch, is alleged to have assisted in the disposal of the Mercedes A-Class used during the shooting.

34-year-old Rooney - also known as Roxanne Matthews and of Noctorum - faces two charges of assisting an offender by supposedly hiring the Volkswagen car and booking a lodge at Penllwyn Lodges, mid-Wales, to be used by Chapman.

She is also said to have “harboured Connor Chapman in her house” between December 24 2022 and January 14 2023.

All four of the defendants have denied the charges.

The trial is listed before Mr Justice Stephen Morris and is expected to last three to four weeks.

The trial continues.
