FIRE crews tackled a blaze at a former gym premises in Birkenhead town centre on Sunday evening (October 6).

Three crews attended the incident at the one-time Rocky's Gym on Argyle Street at 6.13pm.

The fire was on the second floor of the four-storey building.

Crews gained entry to the property and two firefighters in breathing apparatus and used a one hose reel jet.

A fire service statement read: "Two teams of two firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the building, with all persons accounted for and no persons present in the property.

"The fire was extinguished and firefighting activities ceased, with natural ventilation taking place.

"Crews made up their equipment and left the scene at 19.22."
