REGISTATION is now open for the 2025 Glow Green Night Walk in aid of Wirral-based Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
The event, which is sponsored by Arriva and helps mark World Cancer Day, will take place on Friday, February 7 and will see Liverpool come together for a fabulous evening of fun and fundraising.
Last year around 1,500 people took part in the 8k walk around the city, raising a whopping £235,000 to help the charity make a real difference to those affected by cancer.
And for 2025, organisers’ sights are set even higher.
“This will be the fourth year we have held a Glow Green Night Walk and each time we’ve been overwhelmed by the response,” said Chief Executive of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Katrina Bury.
“It’s such a wonderful event and the perfect opportunity to gather family and friends together to take part in a night to remember.
“There is always a lot of laughter as well as the opportunity for reflection. And to see so many of the city’s landmarks lit up in green to support us is very powerful.”
The evening starts at a specially constructed event village outside the Museum of Liverpool on the city's waterfront with live entertainment performed on stage.
There will be a chance to buy Glow Green merchandise and stock up on refreshments before the walk begins in proper at 7.30pm.
The route will pass by some of the city’s most famous landmarks which are traditionally lit up green for the event.
Walkers will be treated to a range of entertainment along the way from choirs and bands. There will also be a chance to pause and reflect as the darkness of night becomes lit by hundreds of lanterns placed up the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Richard Hoare, area director for Arriva North West & Wales said: “It’s our great pleasure and privilege to continue our support for this fantastic event and build on our cooperation from last year.
“We’re always happy to support this great cause and help to raise awareness of the crucial work done by Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
“It’s a vital Merseyside charity and helps people across our region – including our customers and employees.
“We wish everyone taking part well and I know they’ll do the city proud by raising lots of funds to help our community.”
Would-be walkers can order a lantern when registering for the event. Participants must be 16 or over.
“It’s always a brilliant evening,” said Events Fundraising Manager at the charity Mark Parkinson.
“I think the walk gives everyone something to look forward to and aim for as we come out of winter.
“It’s enormous fun but hugely inspiring at the same time. And the city lit up in green is something to behold.”
Money raised for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity goes to fund the latest research, new technology, innovations in care and the most positive experience for patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
