Ten delicious curry places made Wirral’s shortlist in the latest Best of 2024 category and No1 Masala came out on top.

Aziz Rahman known as Woody is the owner of No1 Masala - he is the head chef and manages the kitchen.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in the industry having started working with his father from a young age, helping out each weekend.

The family had successful restaurants in Bradford and Manchester and Woody’s brother Shah, known as Jay, studied business management and he runs the front of house.

The restaurant was established on Coronation Drive in Bromborough in 2007 and family-run with Woody and Jay’s nephews helping out during busy periods.

Woody, who is 42, said: “We take pride in offering top quality food.

“Balancing family dynamics with business responsibilities can be challenging but it fosters a unique sense of trust and commitment that drives our success.”

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, No1 Masala was close to shutting its doors permanently.

Woody said: “It was a hard time for us but we kept going.

“We gave a 20 per cent discount for Blue Light card holders and we were proud to serve the community during the pandemic.

“We provide authentic Indian food to dine in.

“Quality is our main priority and we use only the freshest ingredients.

“It is bring your own (BYO) drinks the restaurant and the place is very popular with birthday bookings.

“We also do home deliveries and take walk ins.

“No1 Masala is set apart from its competitors because of our wide range of menu dishes.

“We offer great kid’s meals, street food and fast food.

“One of our popular kebabs is the biggest kebab in Wirral - we have customers coming from as far as Ellesmere Port and Wallasey to collect the famous kebab!

“Our chef’s speciality curries are very popular and exclusive to No1 Masala.

“The No1 Masala house special chicken tikka chilly fry and the lamb pardesi are firm favourites with customers.”
