A FORMER Wirral Globe photographer is to give a talk on his new novel next week.
Adventure thriller writer David Gennard will talk about his latest work Marie Cadieux and the Liberty Conspiracy at Bebington Library on Tuesday, September 17.
Published BY Prana Creative, the new book is set in 1886. Marie Cadieux’s suffragette sister is missing. But when Marie, described as an 'artist, rookie and Spy' meets agent Charlie Blaine and NYPD officer Joe Petrosino, the search for her sister uncovers a conspiracy that strikes at liberty itself.
With the threat of anarchy rising on the streets of New York City, Marie undertakes her first mission where lines blur between friend and foe.
David said: "After introducing readers to Marie Cadieux and them falling in love with the reluctant spy in Marie Cadieux and the Fever Coast, I couldn’t wait to write in her world again.
"I’m excited for readers to discover how Marie first fell into the world of espionage in this twisty, fast-paced prequel.”
The 43-year old, who is originally from Wolverhampton has lived in Wirral for almost 20 years. He left the Globe in December 2011.
He went on graduated from The University of Manchester with an MA in Creative Writing, studying under M.J. Hyland, Jeanette Winterson, and Ian McGuire.
When not writing, David can usually be found on set shooting promotional photographs on films such as The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and TV shows like Billions. His photography can be viewed at: www.davidgennard.com
David’s debut novel, Marie Cadieux and the Fever Coast, told the story of sleeper agent Marie Cadieux, who is activated to sabotage the building of the Panama Canal. Marie Cadieux and the Liberty Conspiracy is the prequel. He currently has several books in development.
David lives in Wirral with his partner and his two children.
He has worked with the likes of Jim Broadbent, Naomi Harris, Damien Lewis and Gwendoline Christie on productions such as The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Billions and Robin and the Hoods.
The 43-year-old said: "Over the last few years I’ve photographed some incredible productions which have inspired me.
"But it literally takes thousands if not millions of pounds and a whole army of people to tell these stories.
"I've always been a daydreamer and the thing I love about writing novels is that all you need is your imagination and a pen and paper.”
He added: "The Marie Cadieux series is set in the late 1800s and I love the contrasts of this era.
"The Belle Époque is in full swing yet there are still great frontiers being explored across the globe.
"There’s no better test for a burgeoning spy such as Marie than having her navigate from the slums of New York to Parisian high society and the jungles of Panama and beyond.
"Some of the productions I’ve worked on are based on established novels such as Rachel Joyce’s The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry or AA Dhand’s Virdee.
"A lot of my readers say how visual my stories are and how they’d love to see them adapted into a movie.
My dream would definitely be to shoot stills on an adaption of one of my books!”
