WIRRAL Coastguard Rescue Team has issued safety advice after one person and a dog were rescued from the water off New Brighton earlier today (Friday, September 6).
The team was called to action alongside New Brighton lifeboat crew following a report of one person and a dog in distress. By the time they arrived at the scene, a passing member of the public had entered the water and started swimming the casualty and dog back ashore.
With everyone, including the dog, now safely back ashore RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat was stood down.
Coastguard Rescue Officers carried out an initial assessment of the casualty and administered basic first aid for some cuts they had sustained
A post on Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team's Facebook page following the incident read: "If you are heading to the coast: Check the tide times and exit the sandbanks in plenty of time.
"If you do get cut off raise the alarm by dialling and asking for the Coastguard. Shout for assistance if you have no phone. Do not try to enter the water as the gullies are fast flowing and not swimmable.
