THE owner of a Wirral menswear shop is preparing to hang up his tape measure for good and retire after 54 years in the industry.

Munros Menswear & Suit Hire on Hoylake Road in Moreton has served fashion-conscious gentlemen, wedding parties and formal event attendees across Wirral and beyond since 2015.

Its proprietor, John Pratt, began his menswear career in 1970, when he started working for Jock Munro in Dorking, Surrey.

Looking ahead to retirement, John, said: "After 54 wonderful years in menswear, I've decided it's time to hang up my tape measure.

"I'm looking for someone who can tailor their own vision to fit the fabric of this business while maintaining the strong community ties we've stitched together over the years."

The business offers what is described as 'a unique blend of retail and suit hire services, catering to a wide range of occasions from weddings and proms to funerals and award ceremonies'.

It has adapted to significant changes in the industry, including the rise of online sales and evolving formal wear trends.

John added: "We've seen a real shift in formal wear preferences over the years, but the need for quality suits and personal service remains constant.

"It's been wonderful to be part of this journey, and we hope the next owner will continue to dress the community for success."

Munros is known for its high-quality garments and personalised service. The shop offers prestigious brands and has built a reputation for excellence in suit fitting and alterations.

He said: "One of our most rewarding aspects has been helping people look and feel their best for important life events.

"From wedding parties to job interviews, it's been a privilege to play a small part in these significant moments."

The owner is keen to find a buyer who will maintain this commitment to quality and service.

Mr Pratt is offering to work alongside the new owner for several months to ensure a smooth transition and pass on his wealth of industry knowledge.

Andrew Goodacre, chief executive of the British Independent Retailers Association (Bira), of which Munros has been a member for over 30 years, said: "John Pratt exemplifies the dedication and passion that independent retailers bring to our high streets.

"His 54-year career and long-standing membership with Bira are testaments to his commitment to the industry. We wish John a well-deserved retirement and thank him for his contributions to the independent retail sector."

Munros Menswear & Suit Hire will continue trading throughout the transition period.

The owner assures customers that all outstanding orders will be fulfilled and the high level of service will be maintained.

John added: "I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our loyal customers in Wirral and beyond for their unwavering support over the years.

"It has been a fantastic journey, and I have cherished every moment. From my early days with Jock Munro to serving the wonderful people of Wirral, it's been an honour to be part of this industry for so long."
