Folk on coast

WORLD-renowned artists and rising stars from the folk music scene are set to perform at a new weekend long festival on Wirral later this week.

'Folk on the coast' - taking place from Friday to Sunday (September 13 to 15) - promises an eclectic mix of performances from artists such as Martin Carthy, Martyn Joseph, Martin Simpson, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican, Jackie Oates and John Spiers.

Also due to appear are Jon Wilks, Mikey Kenney, Gilmore & Roberts, Joe Topping, The Skylarks, Katie Nicholas, Maddie Morris, The Far North, James Delarre & Saul Rose and Jack Rutter.

Folk music pioneer Martyn Joseph is set to host a song-writing talk alongside Question & Answer sessions with Cole Stacey and Keith Wilson.

There will also be a chance to catch Mind The Step Appalachian Dancers, as well as take part in DADGAD and Poetry workshops.

The inaugural festival will utilise the entertainment venue’s multiple performance spaces as well as local music venues such as Future Yard in Birkenhead to create a dynamic and immersive experience for attendees.

Hoylake 10k

A COASTAL 10km run is set to return to Wirral later this month after organisers decided to bring it back after five years.

The Hoylake 10k Coastal Fun Run, on Sunday, September 22, will be back for its 26th year and will help raise funds for the UTS Foundation, based in the town.

The event is well established in the Wirral community, consistently attracting hundreds of runners from across the region.
