POLICE are hunting for two men after an attempted motorbike jacking in Birkenhead.

At around 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday, September 4) a man in his 30s was riding his Sym motorbike along the A5029 towards the junction of Claughton Road when two men, who were both wearing black coats, tracksuit pants and black balaclavas, pulled alongside him on a Sur-Ron bike.

The male on the rear of the Sur-Ron demanded the victim's motorbike and kicked the man causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic.

The rider then pulled over at the junction of Claughton Road and Eastbourne Road at which point the two men on the Sur-ron stopped and walked towards him and made threats.  No weapon was sighted.

The motorcyclist then got off his bike and ran away followed by the two males on the Sur-Ron.

The man returned to the scene a short time later and was able to recover his motorbike.

Police attended and conducted house-to-house and CCTV enquiries in the local area.

It is believed it was busy in the area at the time and that the incident may have been filmed by other motorists.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “We know this is a busy area of Birkenhead and as it was the middle of the day there would have been a number of motorists and pedestrians in the area.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or believed they captured it on their mobile phone or dashcam, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“On this occasion the victim was uninjured and thankfully was able to recover his property but this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we will do everything within our powers to find the people responsible.

“If you know anything please come forward and speak to us and tell us what you know.”
