A MAN was punched to the floor, kicked in the face and spat at during an 'unprovoked' attack in Liverpool City Centre. 

Detectives have released CCTV images of a man who may information that could with their enquiries into the incident that took place between 7pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, August 3.

The victim was walking with his family along Church Street when a group of men pushed him to the floor and attacked.

The assault occurred on the same day that disorder occurred in Liverpool city centre.

The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered bruising to his face and a cut to the eye which required medical attention.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect responsible, and detectives have issued two images of a man they believe could assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said: "This was a vicious and unprovoked attack that left the victim in a state of shock and requiring hospital treatment.

"This took place on the same day of the disorder in Liverpool city centre which saw innocent people caught up in the shocking scenes of that day.

"I am appealing to the man featured in the two images, or anyone who recognises him to come forward. We believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.

"We also encourage people to come forward if you know anything about the incident which will help with our investigation."
