A tyre flip from from Wallasey Town Hall to New Brighton Promenade has raised thousands of pounds for charities supporting physical, mental health and wellness and combatting cancer.

Three teams flipped two 100kg tyres and one 70kg tyre two miles during the event on Sunday, August 25, which raised more than £8,000 for Kaizen Wirral Mindset CIC, a physical, mental health and wellness service and Cancer Research UK.

It is the third time Kaizen, based at the Wirral Wellness Centre on Price Street in Birkenhead, has held the event.

More than 40 people took part in the event, which was launched by Mayor of Wirral, councillor Cherry Povall JP on August 25.

The teams, from Kaizen Wirral Mindset CIC, a physical, mental health and wellness service, and Grit + Grace, the Wirral-based 40+ women’s lifestyle flip initiative, had hoped to raise £5,000.

Darren Holmes, founder and chief executive of Kaizen Wirral Mindset CIC, said: "I cannot begin to say how delighted we all are to have raised so much money from the tyre flip.

"Everyone that took part gave it their all, so to have smashed our targets by more than £3000 is phenomenal.

"Not only does this mean that we can continue to offer subsidised physical, mental health and wellness support and awareness coaching through Kaizen and Grit + Grace, but we're also able to donate to two charities that do a huge amount of good either nationally and here on the Wirral."

It is the third time the organisation, based at the Wirral Wellness Centre on Price Street in Birkenhead, has held the event.

The event raised £5,000 last year for Kaizen and £4,000 in 2022, which went to four Wirral-based charities. However, it is the first time that a women's team has entered the flip.

It is also the first time the flip has been sponsored by local businesses, with Wirral Skips, PIB Insurance, Frank Bather & Son and RF Lifting backing the event.

The teams all wore t-shirts adorned with the logos of Kaizen Business Ambassadors. These local companies pledge a monthly amount to support Kaizen’s work in the community.

Darren Holmes continued: "Thanks to our business ambassadors and support from both the National Lottery Community Fund and Sport England, we're able to offer ongoing subsidised support to people who might not otherwise be able to access our services.

"We currently have 22 local businesses signed up to the programme, with a goal of growing that to 100 members so more people can get the support and help they need."

Event donations have come via the event’s JustGiving page, as well as contributions on the day and sponsors.
