MERSEYSIDE Police has issued an update after the hunt for the victim of an “attack” outside a Birkenhead pub continues.

At around 3.40pm on Saturday (August 31) it was reported that a man was attacked outside a pub by two men who are believed to have made off on electric bikes.

The alleged assault happened on Oliver Street East, near the Fireman’s Arms pub in Birkenhead.

At the time police said the victim had yet to be identified and "extensive enquiries” were ongoing to do so and to ensure that he is safe and well.

Today (Monday, September 2) Merseyside Police confirmed to the Globe that the force still hadn’t identified a victim at this stage and that enquiries “remain ongoing”.

In response to the incident a Section 60 Order was introduced in Birkenhead town centre.

The order came into force from 8pm on Saturday and was in place until 8pm on Sunday September 1.

The Section 60 order gave officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and minimise further incidents.

Inspector Andy Murphy said: “The Section 60 order allows us to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality. This order will give officers on the ground the ability to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality.

“It is to prevent violence and disorder and keep the public safe, and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.

If you witnessed the assault or were passing by and may have captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or other devices, please come forward with reference 570 and we can establish exactly what took place.”

Anyone with information about criminality and disorder is asked to DM @MerPolCC, message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook’ or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111.
