WIRRAL lifeguards will take on a 200-mile running challenge for the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.

On Monday, September 2 The Wirral Lifeguards will run 200 miles with each lifeguard covering a five-mile leg from Harrison Drive to New Brighton beach and back, passing a rescue tube to the next runner.

The challenge will be a continuous relay over approximately 48 hours starting 7am.

A spokesperson for The Wirral Lifeguards said: “The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has been saving lives at sea since 1824.

“This incredible organisation relies on the dedication and bravery of volunteers and the generosity of the public.

“Over the past 200 years, the RNLI has saved countless lives, all thanks to ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

“Now, as we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we need your help to ensure that the RNLI can continue its lifesaving work for many more years to come.”

So far, the fundraising page has raised £885 of its £2,000 target.

The Lifeguards added: “200 years is a significant milestone, and we are proud to be part of this legacy.

“By supporting our challenge, you are joining a community of lifesavers and making a tangible impact on the RNLI’s future.

“Let's come together and show what we can achieve when we support one another.”
