WIRRAL Mencap’s Seaside Walk returns this September.

Since 2021, Wirral Mencap, a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities on the Wirral, has organised a Seaside Walk in September to raise awareness of learning disabilities and raise funds for the charity.

This year, the Seaside Walk returns on Saturday, September 21 and is open for anyone to join.

Wirral Mencap’s CEO, Sharon Nicholson, said: “This is the fourth year we have run our very own annual Seaside Walk and it’s going from strength to strength.

“It’s a fabulous event for lots of reasons. We are so lucky in Wirral to have such a beautiful coastline to enjoy on the walk.

The walk is 10 miles long and completely accessible, staring at Seacombe Ferry Terminal and ending at Green Lodge Hotel in Hoylake.

For those who are unable to complete the full 10 miles, there will be a drop-off point at the two-mile mark.

Sharon added: “It’s a lovely opportunity to bring some of our supporters and the people we support together to do something that everyone can enjoy. With a 2-mile and a 10-mile option, our Seaside Walk is accessible for all.

“This year we’re delighted to have more local businesses getting a team of colleagues together to take part in the Seaside Walk and fundraise for Wirral Mencap.

“If you are a local business keen to support a local cause, then we would love you to join us. There’s still Corporate Sponsorship opportunities open to local businesses too. Please get in touch.

“If you just want to do the walk though there’s still time to sign up and start fundraising. Everyone is welcome.”

Bidston Tesco and Birkenhead Lions have teamed up again this year to run a refill station at the two-mile mark, providing walkers with water and some words of motivation.

Birkenhead Lions will also be patrolling the route to make sure that all walkers are safe and accounted for.

Registration costs £6 per person and there is a special group price of £30 for groups of six.

There is a target of £40 to raise in sponsorship for the Seaside Walk.

Participants will be sent a fundraising park with more information on how to do this upon registering.

Each walker will also be given a free Wirral Mencap t-shirt to wear during the walk.

The money raised by the Seaside Walk will go directly towards supporting local people with learning disabilities.

Registration can be done by speaking to staff at the Wirral Mencap office on Market Street, Birkenhead, or by visiting Ticket Tailor via https://buytickets.at/wirralmencap/1339318.
