Ten delicious looking burgers made Wirral’s shortlist in the latest Best of 2024 category and The Good Hood has taken this year’s coveted crown.
Richard Fergie opened The Good Hood on Grosvenor Road in New Brighton in November 2022 – he also has a restaurant on Ocean Plaza Retail Park in Southport.
Richard is the owner and the venues are managed by Cedric Mathe, Reuben Panayiotis and Mike Whiting.
Richard, who is 35, said: “The original store was in West Kirby, which was a small 35-cover restaurant and the perfect way to launch the brand.
“As time progressed, we soon realised that we needed a larger site and expanded to the 90-cover New Brighton restaurant and 100-cover Southport venue.
“We are handmade happiness!
“At The Good Hood, we whip up deliciousness from scratch every day because who doesn’t love that fresh out of the kitchen vibe?
“Our extravagant burger collection has to be seen to be believed.
“Whether you crave a messy masterpiece, a simple delight or the ultimate comfort bite, we’ve got the perfect burger for you.
“We also have finger lickin’ famous fried chicken and freshly made pizzas that are crafted with love.
“The décor is a step into our colourful world decked out with a playful graffiti-inspired that brings a burst of energy to every meal.
“The Good Hood is where great food meets good times.”
Richard moved to Wirral three years ago from Scotland and he loves everything about the area – especially the people, the location and the beaches.
Richard, whose background is in hospitality, said: “Before opening the first restaurant, I spent a week in New York which was full of burgers, pizzas, beers and cocktails and I ate in some cool neighbour hoods, which were alive with so much graffiti, music and vibes.
“It was good times that we wanted to recreate back home and we have been working on it ever since.”
He added: “Restaurants get a hard time and while they are not the easiest sometimes, if you apply key factors and truly love what you do while believing in your product and brand, it is a great business sector to be part of.
“All restaurants are the same - they provide food, drink and service in a welcoming environment.
“I truly believe that we have taken the time to break down each section and look at it closely to see where we can add value, wow customers and over deliver on expectations.”
What do customers think of the burgers at The Good Hood? Why did they want them to win our latest award?
Burger Mondays are not to be missed – you can enjoy a burger and fries or a cocktail for £15.95.
One happy customer simply said: “They are the best burgers in Wirral – so tasty.”
Richard said: “I can hands down say that all our burgers are a must try – it all depends on your mood and vibe.
“Our menu has dishes that we’re known for.
“Our fried chicken burger with bacon mac ‘n’ cheese and smoked chipotle – this is a top seller.
“When you add double beef patties, bacon, pulled pork and onion rings to a burger, you know you’re creating a crowd pleaser.
“I think we have done well in growing the business and this is down to listening to our customers – we are always striving to make our product, service and restaurant offering better and looking to build a better business every day.”
When Richard heard that The Good Hood had made the shortlist for Wirral’s Best for Burgers 2024 he was extremely grateful and appreciative of all the comments and recommendations from customers.
Richard said: “There were so many names on the shortlist and it was fantastic just to be recognised.
“When I heard that we’d won, I was very happy indeed.
“This was our third year making the top ten in the competition and each year I have really witnessed our growth and hard work, so it was nice to see that recognised.
“It was great to tell the staff that these are now award-winning burgers.
“A huge thank you to all our customers for the votes and support – you rock and you are awesome.
“Thanks for voting!”
