A WIRRAL bassist is returning for a homecoming show at a Birkenhead music venue.

Shez Raja, is returning to the peninsula for the first time in 25 years to headline a homecoming show at Birkenhead’s Future Yard. 

Born and raised in Parkgate, Raja was hugely active in the local music scene in the 1990s. 

After buying his first bass guitar with the money he earned delivering the Wirral Globe as a boy, Raja is set to deliver a special and heartfelt performance, as part of Milap’s Autumn 2024 Season of Indian Arts and Culture.

He told the Globe: “I’m so excited to be performing in Wirral, where I started out on my music career.

“I have incredible memories from those early shows, the vibrant music scene and amazing audiences.

“It’s where I developed my passion for music and my unique voice as a musician.

“It’s where I drew my inspiration. I used to deliver the Wirral Globe as a boy and that’s how I earned the money to buy my first bass guitar, so I can’t wait to return to the Wirral for this show at Future Yard in Birkenhead for what will be a truly special and heartfelt performance.”

Since moving to London, Raja became known for his high-energy live shows and unique ‘Indofunkjazz’ sound and has become a prominent session musician, collaborating with the likes of global jazz performers Mike Stern and Randy Brecker.

His band has also amassed a devoted following after performances at UK venues including Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz Cafe, as well as international jazz festivals from Europe to New Zealand.
