AN exciting day celebrating Latin American culture is happening in Birkenhead later this month.

Featuring live music, dance, circus arts, making and craft workshops as well a chance to experience Latin American cuisine, the free event takes place at Future Yard on Sunday, August 18. 

Wirral is Liverpool City Region’s Borough of Culture in 2024 and has developed a packed cultural programme to celebrate the Wirral, its heritage, culture and diverse communities. As part of this programme, LUMA Creations are collaborating with Future Yard and the Latin American community and organisations in Birkenhead to deliver a fun, colourful, informative day celebrating the Latin American community in Wirral.

LUMA are also responsible for the annual music, dance and theatre event La Feria, which this year us running from September 10-15 in venues across Liverpool. Featuring a rich and diverse roster of artists from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Argentina. 

A spokesperson for organisers, Luma Creations, said: "Expect to be captivated by performances from Mexican folk dance group, Colibri and Luma’s very own Latin American dance troupe.

Entry is free and the event takes place between 12-4pm. 

"Enjoy vibrant live music from the Grammy nominated Colombian outfit KillaBeatMaker, Tocha Trio led by Peruvian composer Daniel Tocha, and Salvadorean Singer Nelson Gomez.

"Immerse yourself in the tropical Latino vibes of Costa Rica with DJ Freddy Perez, also known as DJ Muvelo, and be sure to explore the street/circus arts with Magical Circus as well as Latin American food stalls, products, and much more."

The day, which is part of Wirral Borough of Culture 2024, has been organised by the Latin American community as well as local communities in Wirral and brings together a number of stake-holders from Birkenhead to show the range of services and activities in the area.
