AN 'advanced' resuscitation wing has been officially opened at Arrowe Park Hospital this week.
It is the latest phase of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust's multi-million pound urgent and emergency care facility.
It marks what the trust called a 'significant milestone' for the project, as it is the first clinical section to be opened.
Strategically located near the ambulance entrance for rapid patient transfer, the resuscitation area includes eight specialised rooms designed to meet both patient and clinical needs.
Additionally, a new staff floor has been built, providing urgent and emergency care teams with a dedicated entrance, workspace, and wellbeing area.
The new development is the largest undertaken at Arrowe Park Hospital since it was built in 1982.
Clinical staff have been closely involved in shaping the facility and there is ongoing consultation with the public throughout the work.
Dr Nikki Stevenson, medical director and deputy chief executive of Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust, said: "The new resuscitation area is designed around the needs of our patients.
"It provides optimum facilities to ensure the best and safest care is provided to our most severely ill patients within the Emergency Department."
Janelle Homes, chief executive of Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: "Providing quality patient care is our priority, so it is fantastic to see this milestone reached with the opening of the new resus area.
"We are working hard on the next phases of the development and would like to thank the public for their patience while we have been creating this important new facility for Wirral."
