A DENTAL nurse from Wirral is preparing to take part in a project in Africa later this year and needs your support to get there.
Jill Fogg has been invited by the team at dental education charity Bridge2aid to join them for a week on their outreach training programme in Tanzania Africa in October this year.
While there, she will help with a number of projects including the delivery of oral health education, sterilisation of the instruments and infection control training.
She will also be involved in offering basic dental treatment and mentoring dental therapists at primary schools in the area.
Jill, from Birkenhead, has been a dental nurse for 13 years and currently works at a practice in Liverpool.
She has launched a justgiving campaign to raise the £2,000 that is needed to get to Tanzania.
Jill told the Globe: "My hobbies have included entering beauty pageants and carrying out voluntary work and I've also been involved with charity work which is why the project in Africa appealed to me.
"The aim of the project is to educate them on their dental techniques and to help children.
"I think it's an extremely project and am looking forward to taking part.
"The pain caused by oral disease can affect someone's ability to eat and carry out every day tasks – such as working and attending school.
"The project's aim is to share prevention messages and enhance the competence and confidence of the local dental workforce.
"This work is conducted in partnership with local dental associations and always with permission and by invitation from the health ministries.
"The project aims to reinforce the current healthcare structure and advocate for access to oral health education and treatment".
