FRIENDS of a Wirral man who dedicated his life to "making a difference" after being diagnosed with terminal cancer are preparing to take on a 'Three Peak Challenge' in his memory.
Danny De Brabander, who died in October last year, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2019. It spread to his liver and he was given months to live.
The 42-year-old, from Birkenhead was told three times by doctors that the disease would kill him, but remarkably kept fighting and looked to have won his gruelling battle.
But after surviving two diagnoses, both of which gave him a short time left to live, Danny was once again told in April last year that the cancer had returned and that he had "about two years" left to live.
Determined to be positive, Danny co-founded #TeamDDB to support people, like himself, being treated for this devastating illness. The group's efforts have, over the years, raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.
Danny and #TeamDDB developed and took part in a number of fundraising events during 'lockdown' for the Critical Care department at WUTH, where he was cared for in 2019.
Fundraising activities included setting up a JustGiving page for donations, making a 'thank you to the NHS video', 5k runs done by many, #StayHomeShaveYourHead.
They also helped raised nearly £6,000 for Wirral Foodbank to help "make a real difference".
In tribute to Danny's work, a group of 15 individuals will take on the 'Three Peak Challenge' on October 5 and 6 in memory a man they described as a 'beloved member of the Wirral community'.
Among the team is Neil Whiteside, who told the Globe this week: "Dan was known for his love of walking, often exploring the parks of Birkenhead even during his illness.
"His passion for the outdoors and his community spirit live on through 'Team DDB', a community interest company he established to support local Wirral residents with random acts of kindness and to assist other local causes.
"The Three Peak Challenge, which involves climbing three of the UK's tallest mountains, was a challenge Dan was keen to do himself.
"It will not only be a test of endurance but also a heartfelt tribute to Dan's enduring spirit."
Participants hope to raise funds and awareness for "Team DDB," continuing Dan’s mission of spreading kindness and helping those in need.
Neil continued: "The event promises to be a fitting homage to a man who loved nature and dedicated his life to making a difference.
"Join us in supporting these brave walkers as they honour Dan's memory and continue his legacy of generosity and compassion.

During a interview with Bowel Cancer UK in 2019 following diagnosis, Danny explained why the fundraising was important. He said: "I am a firm believer in that we can't always control what happens to us in life, but we can control the way in which we respond, especially to adversity.
"That said, I have tried to turn my negative situation into a positive by helping others despite my own battles.
"We have setup a charity #TeamDDB to help support my local community and help other charities including Bowel Cancer UK.
"We have done many random acts of kindness, and made real progress in raising vital awareness for bowel cancer.
"It's truly been the sunshine that follows the rain for me."
