BOOKS of condolence in which the public can pay respects to the victims of a mass stabbing in Southport have been opened on Wirral.

At around last Monday (July 29) police were called to reports of “multiple stabbings” at a property in Hart Street where a Taylor Swift-themed dance event was taking place.

Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar later lost their lives. Eight other children and two adults who were at the event were injured with some still believed to be in critical condition.

Books of condolence are now open for the public to sign at Birkenhead and Wallasey Town Halls (9am – 4pm, Monday to Friday) and tributes can also be made in the online book of condolence, by clicking here.

The Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paul Stuart, said: "I'm sure I speak for everyone in Wirral when I say how deeply saddened and shocked I am by the tragic events in Southport.

"Along with other councils across Merseyside, we have lowered our flags as symbols of our support and compassion for everyone who has been affected by the terrible events."

Flowers have also been laid at Southport Town Hall on behalf of all Wirral residents.
