A WIRRAL school has been awarded a prestigious national sports award.

Bidston Avenue Primary School has been given the prestigious School Games Mark Platinum Award for the third time.

The Government-led award scheme, launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, recognises schools for their commitment to developing competition across their school and within the community.

After being awarded the School Games Mark Gold Award for five years, the school first achieved the Platinum Award in 2018-19 and then again in 2021-22.

This year alone, the school has participated in 46 competitions across 16 different sports, including inclusive sports such as boccia and new age kurling.

These efforts provided over 400 opportunities for students to represent the school in various competitions.

Additionally, the school's #LetGirlsPlay mini-World Cup and mini-Euros competitions, held at lunchtimes, have encouraged children to stay active and work towards achieving 60 minutes of activity each day.

As a result, Bidston Avenue students have spent a total of 1.4m minutes being active through lessons, clubs, lunchtime activities, and competitions.

Stuart Brady, headteacher at Bidston Avenue Primary School, said: "We are thrilled to receive the School Games Mark Platinum Award for the third time.

"This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire school community in promoting and participating in sports.

"Our pupils' enthusiasm and commitment to staying active are truly inspiring.

"We look forward to continuing our efforts to provide excellent sports opportunities and to fostering a lifelong love of physical activity among our pupils."
