HESWALL Hall will be turned into a cultural hotspot this summer as PurpleDoor bring their award-winning theatre to Wirral.

The company will be presenting Shakespeare's romantic comedy As You Like It as part of a magical immersive experience. 

As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, where you can fall in love with more than just romance.

Telling the tale of lost lovers, the audience will also be able to enjoy table service drinks and themed food as they are transported to the Forest of Arden for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and song.

What’s more, this show has been created alongside residents from across Wirral.

‘"We think that a lot of theatre has little relevance to people’s lives," said the show’s producers. "It’s too expensive, too confusing and doesn’t relate to the world we live in.

"We’ve taken the opposite approach, and have developed every part of this show alongside our communities, who have really helped to make it what it is. It’s unlike any other Shakespeare you’ll have seen."

The show has been designed to be completely accessible, and a dedicated access performance will be available on the first night for those who would prefer a more relaxed environment. All performances will be captioned, and the script will even be translated into modern English to help those put off by Shakespeare’s language.

PurpleDoor have been producing theatre since 2008, and have toured the UK and Ireland supported by figures including Stephen Fry and Sir Ian McKellen. Hailed as ‘one of the UK’s fastest rising ensembles,’ they produce work which showcases talent from across the North West and aims to break down barriers to culture and theatre. They are known nationally for their ground breaking approach to Shakespeare, and were last seen in Wirral when they performed The Two Gentlemen of Verona at the West Kirby Arts Centre in 2022.

This new production once again features a whole host of the very best talent from across the North West, and is a huge step up as the company prepare to perform at Heswall Hall.

It’s the first time a theatre production has come to the Hall for some time, and it’s a real opportunity to celebrate and champion having more theatre staged locally.
