RESIDENTS from a Wirral care home were described as 'filled with joy' during a recent trip to Chester Zoo.

The visitors from Caldy Manor were able to see animals from all round the world in person and it brought back some 'wonderful memories' of the times they brought their children to the zoo.

Residents started their day by travelling to Sandy Lane in Chester for their packed lunch which was prepared by head chef Sam.

There was a selection of sandwiches, fruit and cakes which was then followed by a cup of tea whilst watching the boats go by on the river.

The butterfly house particularly peaked their interest as it felt interactive seeing all the butterfly’s fly around them and some even landed on residents arms which brought so much joy to them all.

Hannah Roberts, general manager of Caldy Manor, said: "Our residents have really enjoyed their day out at the zoo.

"Trips out in the homes mini bus are a regular event for the residents, and we always ask for ideas on where they would best like to go.

"The day was a lot of fun, residents were able ask staff questions about the animals and the weather turned out to be lovely as well".

Caldy Manor Care Home, run by Barchester Healthcare, provides residential care and dementia care for 30 residents from respite care to long-term stays.
