A MOTHER whose Wirral flat had windows smashed by a gang of youths has recalled the 'terrifying' early morning incident.

At around 3.30am on Saturday, it was reported that a group of five or six youths were smashing the windows of a property on Kingham Close in Leasowe.

They were challenged by a man aged in his 20s who was then involved in an altercation with the group. The youths attacked him with a knife, causing a stab wound to his arm.

He remains in a stable condition. An investigation is underway to find the gang responsible.

Nicola Brown was in the flat at the time with her partner and 11-year-old son. Recalling the moment when the gang struck, she told the Globe "The property was targeted at 12.45am the first time and they came back at 3.20am to tried to do it again, but my fella was looking out of the window and caught them.

"One of the lads was about to throw a brick at the window, but they ran off.

"When they came back the second time, the neighbours came running out to chase them away. One of the neighbours was stabbed in the arm by one of them."

She added: "I'm just a bit shaken and on edge when going to bed at night, thinking 'are they going to come back' or 'are my windows going to get smashed again'.

"We don't know if the police are going to catch them, or not, because they were all wearing black with hoods up and masks on".

First I knew anything had happened was when I looked out of the window and saw police everywhere.

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “We are in the very early stages of investigating this incident, but it appears as though a group of youths were causing criminal damage to a home and when challenged by a man they have attacked him with a knife.

“We believe that neighbours came to his aid and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or have any information to please come forward.
