A MAN has been arrested after he reportedly “secretly filmed women” in Liverpool city centre.

At around 1.40am on Sunday, July 14, officers were called to Slater Street to a report of a man allegedly covertly filming women.

A 27-year-old man from Bradford was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and taken to a police station for questioning.

He has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries, with conditions preventing him from entering Liverpool City Centre.

Liverpool City Centre Neighbourhood Inspector Jack Woodward said: “We understand the distress and concern that such incidents cause, and we are alert to all such reports, whether in the City Centre or elsewhere.

“The man will be subject to an extensive and thorough investigation and we will continue to support the women who reported the incident. If you were in the area and saw a man acting suspiciously in and around Slater Street, or have any information to assist our investigation, please come forward.

“I’m also keen to reassure anyone who may have been targeted in a similar way that we will take all such incidents extremely seriously. Always call 999 if you feel in danger and a crime is in progress, and there are also other ways to get information to us if the incident is not happening there and then.

“Tackling Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a priority for Merseyside Police, and it is essential we make our region a safer place for women and girls to live, work and visit, free from harassment, abuse and violence.”
