THE Met Office has issued Wirral with a yellow weather warning as heavy rain is expected.

Experts have warned that “heavy rain” will spread north across the area during today (Monday, July 15).

The warning comes into force from 3pm today and is in place until 9am tomorrow (Tuesday, July 16).

During the duration of the warning, there is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses as well as flooding and damage to some buildings.

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services with spray and flooding leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

There is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery, will spread steadily north across the area during Monday.

“Some torrential downpours are likely in places with 15 to 20 mm falling in less than an hour and as much as 30 to 40 mm in 3 hours.

“This is likely to lead to localised flooding, slower travel times and a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded. Some of the heavy rain may be accompanied by lightning bringing a further hazard.

“The heavy rain will slowly ease after dark.”
